He played with his whole heart — every game, every gathering, every season. Mahinthan was not just a member of this association; he was its spirit. He showed up for the court, and more importantly, he showed up for the people around it.
Mahinthan was an active and passionate member of CTVA, continuing to play and contribute to the games right up until his sudden passing. His energy on the court was contagious and his commitment unwavering.
More than a player, Mahinthan was a connector — someone who brought people together, supported younger players, and embodied the spirit of what our Tamil-Canadian volleyball community stands for.
To those who knew him, Mahinthan was more than a teammate. He was a close friend, a trusted presence, and someone whose warmth and humour made every gathering brighter. He is deeply missed.
Mahinthan leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, sportsmanship, and community service that will continue to inspire every player who steps onto a CTVA court. His memory lives on in every game we play.
Jeyakumar Tharmalingam — known to all of us as Mahinthan — was born on March 6, 1973. For decades, he was a constant and beloved presence within the Canadian Tamil Volleyball Association. Whether it was a weekend tournament, a weeknight league game, or simply a gathering of friends at the court, Mahinthan was there.
His sudden passing on August 9, 2025, left a profound void in our community. He was 52 years old, full of life, and still actively playing the sport he loved. Those who played alongside him carry memories of his laughter, his competitive spirit, and the generosity he showed to players of all ages and abilities.
Mahinthan understood what CTVA is really about — not just volleyball, but belonging. He understood that these courts have always been a place where our Tamil-Canadian community comes to feel at home. He was part of why they felt that way.
We hold his memory with deep gratitude and immense love. May he rest in eternal peace.
