Our story

Built by the community, for the community

The Canadian Tamil Volleyball Association began in 1989 as an informal gathering of newcomer families in Scarborough. Through the 1990s our courts were a place of safety during difficult years: for new immigrants arriving with little else, the first place to make friends and feel at home in a new country.

Over more than three decades it grew into a network of 29 clubs across the Greater Toronto Area, Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver. Today CTVA coordinates tournaments, preserves our history, and advocates for the permanent facilities our community has earned.

01

A distinct version of the sport

Tamil volleyball follows its own rules, ball and net requirements, distinct from the traditional game.

02

Open to all

While rooted in Tamil-Canadian history, our courts have always welcomed every background.

03

Run democratically

CTVA is governed by committees and a voting system, by and for its member clubs.

A home court for Scarborough volleyball

Malvern is back, thank you. Now we're asking the City of Toronto for one dedicated volleyball area in Scarborough, with room for four nets and stadium lights. Our nets are staked into the ground, which soccer fields don't allow, so we need a space built for our game.

Goal: 500 signatures. Every name tells the City this space matters. It takes a minute.
